In our quest for health equity, empowering Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) individuals and improving their well-being are non-negotiable. This updated introductory course is about understanding the issues; over seven weeks, we will examine ourselves and work together to better understand the experiences of those in the LGBTQ+ community.

Ideal for Public Health Professionals who want to:

  • Learn more about the health of the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Increase their understanding of the health disparities faced by LGBTQ+ individuals.
  • Learn how to address bias in the delivery of public health services to LGBTQ+ communities.

At the core of this course is the commitment to promote health equity and inclusivity for all. We believe that understanding the diverse identities within the LGBTQ+ community and the impact of social determinants of health is vital in reducing health disparities.

WHAT TO EXPECT

In our flipped-classroom approach, you will actively engage with course content on an individual basis, while also building valuable connections with a small group of peers during weekly live learning sessions. To achieve this, we ask that you participate in the live learning sessions by video using a webcam or built-in camera on your device. While we value collaboration, we encourage you to join independently, even if your coworkers are taking the course.

THIS COURSE WILL TAKE 7 WEEKS TO COMPLETE (7 HOURS OF LIVE SESSION + 7 HOURS OF WEEKLY ONLINE LEARNING ACTIVITES)

There are a total of 6 live learning sessions (starting in Week 2 of the course) held on Tuesdays from 10:00 am - 11:00 am MST. Please put these sessions on your calendar. Each session will include a facilitated discussion and in-session activities among class participants related to that week’s topic. A subject matter expert will lead the discussion, engage participants, and answer questions. Below is the schedule for the course.
