Purpose

To provide Colorado public health professionals who conduct communicable disease case investigations with the opportunity to practice communication skills vital for any communicable disease interview.

What to Expect

Prior to the training, participants will be sent materials to review in preparation for the Skills Lab. During this 3-hour online workshop, participants will:

  • Receive interviewing tips from subject matter experts related to building and maintaining rapport.
  • Observe others and practice their own interviewing skills during skills practice in pairs.

These sessions are intended as a safe space for participants to prepare, practice, ask questions, and get feedback.

Participant Materials

All materials for this skills lab can be printed or downloaded on your computer. Required materials include:

Communicable Disease Skills Lab Participant Manual (provided) - The Participant Manual includes a copy of the Colorado Shigellosis Case Investigation Form, which will be used for one of the skills practice sessions. More information on this pathogen can be found on the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Communicable Disease Manual website. A brief overview of this pathogen will be shared during the training.
