Grants Budgeting Workshop with Sarah Davis

In this interactive workshop, participants will walk through the process of building a grant budget that is directly linked to a project scope of work. The workshop will cover details of common budget categories and specific line items to include with each category, along with appropriate calculations and justification to include in budget narratives. Participants will have an opportunity to practice often-used (and yet somewhat complicated!) budget calculations for personnel, per-FTE direct costs, and indirect rates.

  • List common grant budget categories.
  • Identify line items to include in budget categories.
  • Practice calculating budget costs per full time equivalent staff.
  • Describe the process for writing a budget narrative including how to link a grant budget to a scope of work.

Presenter(s) and/or Content Experts

Training will be provided by Sarah Davis, the Associate Director of the Rocky Mountain Public Health Training Center. Throughout her time with the Training Center and in her previous role with the American Lung Association of the Southwest, Sarah has gained hands-on experience with grants and budgeting. She served as the organization's grant writer during a portion of her time with the American Lung Association and has experience with foundation and governmental grants of varying sizes and durations. Sarah holds a Master's in Nonprofit Management and has been known to nerd out on Excel formula hacks.
