How do you support individuals in achieving their highest level of health? What role do you play in creating healthy, thriving, resilient communities, free from substance abuse, violence, or suicide? This short video defines "upstream prevention" and uses visual analogies to demonstrate how primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention work together. Less than 5 minutes long, this video is a great resource for quickly illustrating concepts such as social determinants of health, risk and protective factors, and the spectrum of prevention.

  1. Distinguish between different types of prevention.
  2. Identify where your work fits within a type of prevention.
