The Health Equity Advocacy Summit Series is a four-month series of interactive training, discussions and presentations with national and Colorado-based leaders beginning on Aug. 11. The summits will provide opportunities for you to engage with other community members to advance policy, change the narrative and promote healing towards action. The speakers and topics in this series are being overseen by the members of the Health Equity Advocacy (HEA) Cohort. In our series, presenters will:

America is Changing: Are You Ready?" with Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr.
Dr. Moore founded the Privilege Institute, which engages people in research, education, action and leadership through workshops, conferences, publications, and collaborative partnerships and relationships. This session challenges participants to examine their own biases, behaviors and belief systems. Additionally, they learn how to take action against hatred, bigotry, privilege and oppression. We need more leaders for social justice and equity across America. Do you have the skills and ability to lead?

Colorado Legislative Panel: Leading in Extraordinary Times
A panel of state legislators will discuss the work that happened during the 2020 legislative session to improve health equity in the state and contribute to an equitable recovery from the health and economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. The legislator panel will be followed by a panel of local policy advocates and organizers who will talk about what the work looks like moving forward.

"Building Communities of Belonging in the Face of Othering" - a conversation with john a. powell
As Director of the Othering & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley john powell brings together stakeholders to identify and eliminate the barriers to an inclusive, just, and sustainable society in order to create transformative change. This session will dive into the conversation of his most recent work, Racing to Justice: Transforming our Conceptions of Self and Other to Build an Inclusive Society.

Building the Health Equity Advocacy Field in Colorado
HEA cohort members will offer reflections and lessons learned on the past six years of building and nurturing a strong field of community advocates to impact policy decisions and improve health equity in Colorado for years to come.

"Exploring the State of the Possible" with Akaya Windwood
How can we contribute to healing the ills of our community and society if we are not taking care of ourselves? Akaya Windwood is internationally recognized for elevating the effectiveness of leadership and collaboration in the nonprofit and social benefit sectors. Her vision for our global community includes infusing a sense of purpose, delight and wonder into everything we do. She will be offering her perspective on patriarchy, hierarchy, race, and the future of the planet, climate change, being a woman and where to source our wisdom.
