Are you serious about applying health equity, but not sure where to start? This course, based on the Health Equity Guidebook developed by the Metro Denver Partnership, is for you. We’ll prepare you to close gaps in health status that result from systemic, avoidable, and unjust policies and practices that create barriers to opportunity for certain people.
To effectively engage in health equity work, you will also need to look inward at your own values and biases. You’ll learn how to equip yourself and your colleagues to challenge and transform systems that disadvantage entire populations.
This course has three main objectives:
· Foster a common understanding of health equity so we can work together using common language and definitions.
· Identify the shared values of health equity work and help you identify where your own values fit in.
· Establish a common understanding of how our country’s historical systems and policies continue to be a barrier to health equity, with a focus on structural racism.
What to Expect
We use a flipped-classroom approach, so you’ll work through course content independently and then connect with a small cohort of peers weekly for live learning sessions that provide an opportunity to ask questions, share your knowledge, and learn from others.
6 Live Learning Sessions: TUESDAYS, 9 AM - 10 AM (MST)
Each session will include a facilitated discussion among class participants related to that week’s topic. A subject matter expert will lead the discussion, engage participants, and answer questions. Below is the schedule for our live sessions.
