Description

Due to high demand, this Skills Lab is being offered only to staff and volunteers working on communicable diseases, including COVID-19, in Colorado. Thank you for understanding!

Purpose

To provide Colorado public health professionals who conduct communicable disease case investigations with the opportunity to practice communication skills vital for any communicable disease interview.

What to Expect

Prior to the training, participants will be sent materials to review in preparation for the Skills Lab. During this 3-hour online workshop, participants will:

  • Receive interviewing tips from subject matter experts related to building and maintaining rapport.
  • Observe others and practice their own interviewing skills during skills practice in small groups.

These sessions are intended as a safe space for participants to prepare, practice, ask questions, and get feedback.

Participant Materials

All materials for this skills lab can be printed or downloaded on your computer. Required materials include:

1) For the first Skills Practice Session, participants have two options for the Case Interview Forms they will utilize, detailed below:

  • Participants may bring one of their agency’s forms or download any of Colorado's Communicable Disease interview forms they would like more practice with (i.e., an interview form utilized in their current or future role). To access additional communicable disease interview forms, please navigate to a disease on the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Communicable Disease Manual website.
  • Participants may also use the provided Case Interview Form from the Participant Packet (the Colorado case interview form used for individuals with Salmonella).

2) Communicable Disease Skill Lab Participant Packet (provided)

Interested but not available during this time? The next Skills Lab workshop will be held on Tuesday, March 14th from 9:00-12:00 PM. We will be offering this Skills Lab at least monthly for the first half of 2023, so please check our website every few weeks for new workshop dates.

We strive to host inclusive and accessible events that enable all individuals, including those with disabilities to engage fully. Please let us know of any accommodations that will assist your full participation.
